Voting in Canada outside your home riding

The only remaining way to vote in this election is at your assigned polling station on Monday, October 21. To find your polling station, check your voter information card or use our Voter Information Service.

1. At any Elections Canada office across Canada

There are over 500 Elections Canada offices open across Canada. Vote at any one of them before Tuesday, October 15, 2019, 6:00 p.m. You will vote using the special ballot process.

Make sure to bring your proof of ID and address.

2. By mail

When you vote by mail, you will vote using the special ballot process. You will need to fill out an application form and submit a photocopy of your proof of identity and address.

You can securely apply online by downloading the form here or contacting us to get one.

If you prefer, you can also:

  • Mail your application form with a photocopy of your proof of identity and address to the address indicated on the form.
  • Fax your application form with a photocopy of your proof of identity and address at 1-613-954-8584 or toll-free in Canada and the USA at 1-888-524-1444. Please note that fax is not considered a secure method of communication.

We must receive your completed application form with a photocopy of your proof of ID no later than Tuesday, October 15, 2019, 6:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Whether you apply online, by mail or fax, we will mail you a special voting kit once we review and approve your application. This kit includes:

  • a special ballot
  • a blank white envelope
  • an envelope with your name, riding, and a space where you can sign
  • a return envelope
  • voting instructions

Once we mail the kit to you, your only way to vote in this federal election will be by mail. You won't be allowed to vote in person.

To count your vote, we need to receive your marked ballot by election day on Monday, October 21, 2019, 6:00 p.m. Eastern time.
