Instruction Issued Pursuant To Section 179 Of The Canada Elections Act

Application For Registration And Special Ballot By Persons Who, By Reason Of Physical Disability, Are Unable To Write Or Make A Mark And Do Not Have A Piece Of Identification Bearing Their Signature

Where an elector who, by reason of physical disability, cannot write or make a mark and the elector attends at the office of the returning officer in order to make an application for registration and special ballot and to vote or is assisted by a designated election officer at the elector's dwelling place to make an application for registration and special ballot and to vote in the manner described in Division 4 of Part 11 of the Act,

  1. the returning officer may accept an application for registration and special ballot from the elector on which the designated election officer

    1. has printed the elector's name on the line on which the elector would otherwise sign his or her name, and

    2. has written "I assisted the elector" and signed under those words; and

  2. the designated election officer may accept pieces of identification from the elector that bear the elector's name and address, but do not bear the elector's signature.
