The present document provides a summary of the results and other information.

Other documents concerning this election are also available.

  • The Thirty-sixth General Election 1997: Official Voting Results (by province and territory) presents the poll-by-poll results for all electoral districts for a given province or territory (on diskette or on paper).

  • The Report of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada on the 36th General Election describes the activities of the Chief Electoral Officer since the 1996 by-elections, in particular the activities of the 36th general election and related recommendations (printed document).

  • A separate report provides information on candidates' and political parties' contributions and election expenses.

These reports are made available to provide explicit and complete information to the public about the administration of electoral events, thereby increasing the transparency of the Canadian electoral process.
