The following legislation affecting federal elections has been enacted in fiscal year 2021-2022.

C-30 (43rd Parliament, 2nd Session) Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No 1 Royal Assent (2021-06-29) Amends paragraphs 486(3)(c) and 486(4)(a) of the Canada Elections Act (CEA) in relation to false statements made knowingly and with the intent of affecting election results.

C-19 (43rd Parliament, 2nd Session) An Act to Amend the Canada Elections Act (COVID-19 Response) Died on the Order Paper at dissolution of 43rd Parliament (2021-08-15) Would have amended the CEA to assist in the delivery of a safe and secure election during the COVID-19 pandemic. These amendments, which would have applied for a limited time period, were aimed at:
  • Replacing polling day with a three-day polling period;
  • Allowing greater flexibility regarding the delivery of in-person polling in long-term care facilities;
  • Broadening the scope of the Chief Electoral Officer's power to adapt the Canada Elections Act; and
  • Facilitating the application and voting process for special ballot voting.
C-10 (43rd Parliament, 2nd Session) An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts Died on the Order Paper at dissolution of 43rd Parliament (2021-08-15) Would have affected sections 335, 339, and 345 (Political Broadcasting) of the CEA.
C-11 (44th Parliament, 1st Session) An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts Second reading in the Senate (2022-06-23) Would affect sections 335, 339, and 345 (Political Broadcasting) of the CEA.
C-14 (44th Parliament, 1st Session) An Act to amend the Constitution Act, 1867 (electoral representation) Royal Assent (2022-06-23) Amends section 51 of the Constitution Act, 1867 so that no province will hold fewer seats in the House of Commons than it did during the 43rd Parliament of Canada. It does so by updating the 1986 grandfather clause of the seat allocation formula, providing a new minimum number of seats to provinces in the House of Commons.
