Subject:

Students, get ready to vote

Text description:

To register and vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old on election day, prove your identity and address and have lived in the riding since May 15, 2023.

Confirm your place of residence

  • Your place of residence or home address is where you ordinarily live, where you think of as home or have adopted as home. You must have ID with that address to register and vote.

Make sure you're registered at that address

  • It's easy to check or update your registration at elections.ca.
  • When you're registered, you should get a voter information card in the mail that tells you where and when you can vote.
  • You can also register when you go to vote.

Make a plan to vote

  • At your assigned polling station on election day or advance polling days
  • At your local Elections Canada office (deadlines apply)
  • By mail: visit elections.ca to see if voting by mail is the right choice for you (deadlines apply)

Bring ID when you go to vote

Option 1:

Show one ID card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial/territorial or local) with your photo, name and current address. For example: your driver's licence.

Option 2:

Show two pieces of ID. Both must have your name, and at least one must have your current address. For example: voter information card and a bank statement, or your utility bill and student ID card.

Option 3:

If you don't have ID, you can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you. The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care institutions).

Visit elections.ca for official information on voting and the health and safety measures in place
