Political Party Policy for the Protection of Personal Information

A notice was published in the Canada Gazette for a coming into force of the Political Party Policy for the Protection of Personal Information provisions on April 1, 2019. The Act provides that you have three months or until July 2, 2019, to comply with the new provisions to provide a copy of the party's policy to the Chief Electoral Officer as well as the Internet address where the policy is published. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada prepared guidelines for political parties to facilitate the drafting of the policy which is available on their web site at: https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/privacy-topics/collecting-personal-information/gd_pp_201904

The Chief Electoral Officer encourages all parties to adopt a robust privacy policy in keeping with recognized standards for the protection of personal information.
