Descriptive text of "Roles Responsabilities Supervisor" video

The animation begins:

The scene shows a Central Poll Supervisor wearing a mask while text is displayed on the screen.

"'Central Poll Supervisors' - or CPSs - are present at all types of polls. Supervisors are responsible for two main functions at the polling place. They supervise the voting process and they supervise the polling place. This video explains what's involved."

The scene features an overview of electoral documents and election officers performing their duties with electors.

" Supervisors oversee the voting process. They make sure that voting desks and registration desks are set up, and that voting is done properly and as easily and efficiently as possible. They support and oversee the work of DROs and they ensure that the registration desk is functioning as it should – supervising and supporting registration officers as needed. "

The following scene shows a Central Poll Supervisor wearing a mask while text is displayed on the screen.

"Supervising voting requires technical knowledge and understanding of voting procedures, using the guidebooks as a resource. It also requires good people skills."

The previous scene is complemented by two other election officers as the text appears on the screen, followed by a transition where a supervisor hands out documents to a candidate representative.

"Supervisors also oversee the running of the polling place. Working with one or more information officers, supervisors make sure the polling place is set up properly that electors can easily access the voting room, that candidate's representatives and other visitors are served properly and are following the rules."

The transition features an overview of Covid-19 protective equipment, followed by an election officer making a phone call and ends with an image of several guides.

"Supervisors ensure all health and safety measures are being taken, they prevent problems and solve them quickly. Supervising the polling place requires organizational skills and people skills. Again, the supervisor uses the guidebooks as a resource."

The documents are presented on the screen.

"Checklists in the guidebook, in the Polling Place Log and in the Verification of Accessible Facilities Booklet help supervisors cover all aspects of their responsibilities regularly and frequently through the day."

The scene shows pictures that illustrate the text and the words judgment and problem-solving skills.

"Supervisors are the main contact between the polling place and the RO office. The returning officer relies on them for their good judgment and problem-solving skills."

The next scene shows several poll workers wearing masks and then the transition shows a returning officer talking with her supervisor.

"Of course, all poll workers have these qualities to some extent, but the returning officer invests much more in the good judgment and problem-solving skills of supervisors."

Infographic presenting measures and procedures is presented on the screen.

"It is often when the values of the polling place conflict with each other that the supervisor must use their judgment to make decisions so that rules are respected as easily and efficiently as possible based on the unique set of circumstances at the time."

The scene features two supervisors talking, followed by an overview of several electoral documents and ends with election officers performing their duties at the polling place.

"When there is more than one supervisor, they coordinate to make sure that all the areas of responsibility are covered. Often, a supervisor with more knowledge of the voting process will focus on supporting the DRO and Registration Desk during voting hours, while another supervisor works with information officers to manage the polling place."

The next scene shows election officials during the count and then several guides appear on the screen.

"At other times, such as during the count and while DROs are organizing their materials for return to the office, supervisors prioritize their attention to ensure those activities are completed properly. The details of a supervisor's job are in the CPS guidebook. They also need to know what's in the other guidebooks, and have a copy of each of them nearby while they work."

The screen shows two CPR followed by a scene where the supervisor is consulting documents.

"A competent supervisor or team of supervisors is often the most significant factor in ensuring a polling place runs well. If you're a supervisor, remember that your job is to help everyone else do well."

Four election officers appear on the screen.

"If you're a DRO or a registration officer or an information officer, ask your supervisor for help when you need it, and be prepared for a supervisor to help make sure you are doing everything properly."

The animation ends with the Elections Canada logo.
