How to Submit an Access to Information or Privacy Request

Submit Your Request Online

Submit a request online through the Government of Canada's Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Online Request Service. This is an easy and secure way to submit your request under the Access to Information Act or Privacy Act. Should you wish to get your reply or response online, track your requests made through the service or obtain status updates and notifications, please create an ATIP Online account.

Please select "Elections Canada" as the institution.

You must have access to a valid email account to use the service.

You must use a credit card to pay the $5 application fee for a request made under the Access to Information Act.

You must attach copies of sufficient proof of your identity with your request for personal information under the Privacy Act.

If you are requesting personal information about another individual with their authorization, then you must attach authorization from them to release their information to you. The authorization must be signed and dated. You also must attach copies of sufficient proof of your and their identity (see the list of accepted ID). You can use the following Authorizing a Personal Information Request to be Made on Your Behalf Form (TBS/CTC 350-55E) (available in PDF and HTML formats) for the authorization:

Access to Information Request (Access to Information Act)

Before submitting an access to information request, you can search the summaries of completed access to information requests to see if the records you want have already been processed under the Access to information Act. Please select "Elections Canada" as the institution. If you do find a summary of a closed request that has the records you are looking for, you can make an informal request for the records by contacting us. Give us your name, contact information and the relevant request number, and we will send you a copy of the records that were previously released.

If you are unable to find what you are looking for by searching the summaries of completed access to information requests or use the ATIP Online Request Portal, you can request records by sending us a completed Access to Information Request Form (TBS/CTC 350-57) (available in PDF and HTML formats):

Please give as much detail as possible about the records you want. Define a clear subject for your request, specify the types of records you want and consider including a date range for the records.
